My Third Place

From Diary 8: Vanity ( 2023 )

I hate vanity, the only thing that it make us do is judging others and our-self, no reason for it to exist, nonetheless is stronger than ever, powered by selective choices shown to us, that is not the majority but its what we know.

Then we start to doubt our-self and, reached a certain point, we start to judge those who didn't doubt like us; repulsive.

The end is not even something useful to us; appearing. The real purpose instead is of an entity formed, no longer human; selling.

In the end, that's where it all ends, selling and buying, buying and selling, giving value to rubbish and turn true value into rubbish.

Everything begins from vanity, not from a sense of aesthetic, not from one's own disposition to improve, but from vanity, by now confused with "taking care".

But why should I judge someone with a torn T-shirt or with a strange combination of attire. Yet I do it... you cannot escape social constructs, remaining in the establishing society.

Why do we confuse it with taking care of one's self? It is a simple social association, if we see that every successful man dress in a certain way, that way mentally leads us back to the successful man, or more precisely, to his lifestyle, in this case a successful career. Therefore I, who wants that lifestyle but I don't have their products, result in the thought that I'm doing something wrong.

How do you know you are rich if you don't wear a Rolex? Stupid right? And yet it is the thought that feed an entire industry, that has crept in the minds of almost every person from the first world, like a social dogma: " To live vanity is required ".

Lot of times, those of high positions in the first world, don't respect this dogma, they follow it to appear to those who believe in it.

It's fine to dress in a certain way to show respect: " I want to be at my best aesthetically for this occasion " or: " I took effort to respect etiquette as a demonstration of my respect ".

But when is it really in this way? I personally think, not in many cases. Moreover why follow the labels? Breaded mainly for a military management " At my orders those who respect them ", what about now? Are we at the orders of someone? Why cant I be free in my skin? Why cant we comprehend the work/worker relation? A relation simple in its nature, but brought to the point of almost worshiping the “superior” when it should be almost the opposite.

It should be that the superior was a job of more responsibility, therefore more tiring and consequently less appealing, but now responsibility is always shifted onto those at the bottom of the chain. What a load of crap, but also what methodical mechanical efficiency.
